During the explorations of the remnants of the abandoned Baba Than Singh Gurdwara at Kot Fateh Khan, interactions with the locals revealed that the memories of the past have been kept alive for seven decades.

Whilst the non-Muslims of the region were ousted in the partition of 1947, the villagers have maintained the tradition to light a lamp in the abandoned Gurdwara. An act that has subtly kept alive the memories of the separated communities.

Shah Hussein’s words lament this pain of separation.

Mai nee main kinnoon aakhaan, Dard vichorey da haal ni
Dukhaan di roti, Soolaan da saalan, Aahen da baalan baal

O mother, O mother, who do I tell, this pain of separation
Bread of sadness, sauce of spikes, make a fire of laments
